  • Follow this by rinsing the sink with hot water.

  • Use a small cleaning brush, or old toothbrush, to get into the small nooks and crannies. Work on the handles, edges and corners to really get the built up grime off. You can use a dish soap and hot water mixture, or a hot water and vinegar mixture for some extra cleaning power. 
• Disinfect
  • After all the soap is rinsed away, use a disinfectant spray on the sink and handles.

Once your sink has been deep cleaned, it will be easier to keep it in good shape. Some things to keep in mind are not to let dirty dishes pile up in the sink, or other clutter around the sink. Change out your sponges often, and wipe down the sink and areas around it after each heavy use. Make sure food and other debris doesn’t sit in the drain area for long. Either take it out to throw away or compost, or send it down the garbage disposal.

Hot water and a mild dish soap are typically all that is needed to adequately clean a sink. Depending on the type of material you have, a baking soda and vinegar mixture can be highly effective, for example, on a stainless steel sink. 

Disinfectant sprays are usually like all purpose sprays, and will work on multiple surfaces. If you are unsure, do some research on your chosen product and your sink material to make sure they work together. You can also use an anit-bacterial dish soap when cleaning, which will disinfect and keep the sink clean at the same time.

One of the most important things to consider when cleaning your sink is to use the correct sponges or brushes to make sure not to scratch your sink. For example, stainless steel sinks can easily be scratched with scouring pads and abrasive sponges.
