Snow and other winter debris, along with the added clutter of jackets and heavy duty shoes can make a clean home difficult to achieve. Luckily, your friendly Loveland maids are here to help with all of your home cleaning needs.

Read on to learn some simple tricks to help keep your home in better shape through the winter months! Not only will this help with the cleanliness of your home now, but it will make your upcoming deep spring cleaning that much more manageable!

What are some basic things I can do to keep snow from being tracked inside?

One of the worst things about snow, from a home cleaning standpoint, is tracking it inside your home. Whether you work from home, or just want to make sure that your home remains a serene sanctuary, dealing with snow properly is crucial through the winter months. You can use the following advice to help manage your home through the winter time.

Have a designated area for shoes in the entryway

Wearing shoes in the home is never a good idea, and this is especially true during winter time. From snow and slush, to road grime, salt and sand debris, shoes are the most likely culprit for making your floors dirty!

Besides instilling a no shoe policy inside your home, you should designate a shoe storage area in your entryway. This can include a shoe rack with a mat underneath to catch excess moisture and debris, or a nice rubber or plastic shoe tray.

While most homes have at least two entrances, it will be best to designate a main one to keep all the shoes in one spot. Not only will this help with consistency, it will make less overall mess to tend to when doing a regular house cleaning.

Change out snowy clothing

Just like shoes, clothing that is wet or snowy will track in more mess from outside. Pant bottoms are especially susceptible to picking up excess snow and grime as they get dragged through the elements. If your clothing is dirty from outside, do your best to change it out right away, so you are not tracking in more grime and water from outside. Not only will this make more work for floor cleaning, it can also get your furniture dirty.

Put jackets away quickly

During snowstorms, jackets will get wet quickly. Once inside, the jacket will be shedding that extra moisture, which will make a mess quickly. Just like shoes in the entryway, make sure to have a designated place for jackets, so they can be taken off before entering the main areas of your home.

What about the exterior?

In addition to making sure the outdoor areas of your home are clean to help keep your home in better shape, it will also help to keep your home cleaners safe when they arrive for your home cleaning.

Shovel the entryway and walkway

The more you work on the exterior of your home, the less mess you will track in throughout the winter. Shoveling the entryway and walkway is key to keeping moisture and debris from entering the home, and it will also make your home exterior safer for anyone coming and going.

Get a solid doormat

While putting your shoes away is great once you are inside, having a solid doormat to wipe your shoes and boots is a great step to keeping your entryway that much cleaner. Make sure to really kick your boots around on the doormat, so you bring in less snow, slush, and outdoor debris.
