After all, who wants their toothbrush sitting in a dirty brush holder or your towel on a dusty hanger?

As the best Timnath CO house cleaning company, we are here to recommend some easy ways to make sure that your whole bathroom stays clean and fresh. Keep reading on to learn more!

What details and accessories should I focus on when cleaning my bathroom?

In addition to cleaning your toilets and showers, looking at the accessories throughout your bathroom, such as the light fixtures is very important to have a full and comprehensive bathroom cleaning.

Towel racks, hooks and bars

Built in racks, hooks, and bars can collect lots of dust, and even build up some grime. Humidity and moisture, combined with dust in the air can make these areas susceptible to the dust and grime getting really caked on. To clean them, simply use your all purpose cleaner of choice, spray the surface down, and wipe with a microfiber cloth.

If it has been a long time since they have been cleaned, you may need to use a stronger degreaser or scrub brush to cut through the grime. Additionally, you may want to use a sanitizing disinfectant spray on the surface as well.

To make sure these areas stay clean and don’t become a major chore to clean, dust and wipe them down everytime you clean the bathroom. Like most things, prevention is key, and it will keep them in good shape consistently.

Light switches

Light switches are an often forgotten area that should be cleaned regularly. Not only will cleaning them brighten up your bathroom, it is also a high touch area that can get really dirty. Use a disinfectant all purpose spray to sanitize and clean the surface. Typically the spray combined with a microfiber cloth will be sufficient, but if it is really dirty, you can try to use a magic eraser to make it shine again.

Toothbrush and razor holders

Like the towel racks and bars, toothbrush and razor holders can collect lots of dust and caked on grime. These areas are important to keep clean, as they hold tools that go into your mouth and on your face.

It is best to clean these areas very consistently, using a disinfectant spray. If they have not been cleaned for a long time, you may need to start out with a degreaser, or for an all natural mix, use vinegar and baking soda to fight through the grime. You can make a vinegar and baking soda paste that can be applied to the surface, and scrubbed with a sponge. The vinegar will fight through and dissolve any soap scum or residue, while the baking soda will give extra scrubbing power.

Soap dishes and dispensers

Soap dishes and soap dispensers will easily build up soap scum on them, making them rather messy! To prevent this buildup, wipe them down frequently, especially after heavy use. Soap dispensers tend to drip soap, from your hand or the nozzle, so should be cleaned up when you see a drip.

You may be able to just use a tissue or rag to clean up little spills, while an all purpose spray will typically be strong enough to do a more thorough cleaning on a regular basis.

Lights and vent fans

Lights and vent fans have the tendency to collect lots of dust quickly in the bathroom. Steam from showering gives the dust an easy surface to attach to, making it a crucial area to not miss while cleaning. When you are going to clean these areas, always remember to clean from top to bottom, so that the dust and debris that gets knocked down from above doesn’t cover areas that you have already cleaned.

Always be careful when cleaning light bulbs as to not touch a wet rag to a hot bulb. Additionally, make sure that the vent fan is turned off before cleaning or disassembling it to clean. A thorough vent fan cleaning won’t need to be performed every time you clean your bathroom, but an exterior wipe down of it is always a good idea.

Trash bins and stools

Trash bins and other accessories, such as stools or benches, should not be neglected in your cleaning. The trash bin can get quite dirty, especially ones that are left out in the open.  To clean the bin, you can run it under water in the bathtub before you clean the tub, or you can use an all purpose spray to give it a good wipe down.

Stools and other accessories should be dusted often, and potentially sanitized with a disinfectant spray if they are used as seating. Make sure that the surface of the stool can be safely cleaned with your spray of choice – when in doubt a simple homemade mix of water and distilled vinegar is typically safe for most surfaces you will find in a bathroom.
