Kitchens are some of the most heavily used areas in the home home, and thus it can be difficult to keep food and grease splatter to a minimum. Between cooking multiple meals per day, it is inevitable that grease and food splatter will build up throughout areas of the kitchen.Â
Keep reading to learn what your trusted Loveland maids recommend to help counter this type of cleaning mess. With these tips, you can keep your kitchen in better shape for longer, making it a more pleasant space to cook and eat in!
Why does my kitchen always seem to be covered in food splatter?
All it takes in a kitchen is one messy meal to wreak havoc! It is really surprising how much food and grease can splatter on the surrounding kitchen cabinets, countertops, and walls. Often this splatter goes unnoticed until it is dried on, which makes cleaning it that much more challenging. Depending on your stove type, cleaning your stove may be more difficult after a messy meal is cooked. Using vinegar or a strong degreaser may be necessary depending on the type of stove, counter, or type of mess you are dealing with cleaning up.Â
Clean Up Often
Perhaps more important than anything else when it comes to cleaning up kitchen food and grease splatter is consistency. If you have the discipline to clean up after every time you cook, it will be much easier and prevent the buildup that can be so hard to clean later.Â
A simple way to ensure cleaning up after cooking is to keep a spray bottle of all purpose cleaner by the stove, with a microfiber cloth. After cooking, take an extra minute to spray and wipe the wall behind the stove top, any stove hood vents, and any cabinet faces above or beside the stove top. By doing this, you can easily wipe off any grease splatter before it has time to harden on the surface.Â
Look Where The Kids Eat
In addition to grease and food splatter from cooking, kids can generate quite the mess around where they eat. Take a look at the counters and cabinet exteriors around the kids’ eating areas, and try to wipe them down a couple times a week. This food splatter is typically not as hard to remove as caked on grease around the stove and oven, but it still has a tendency to build up quickly, and will be harder to remove the longer it sets in.Â
Using A Degreaser
While a mild all purpose cleaner will do the trick on fresh food and grease splatter, once it has been caked on, the mild cleanser may not do the job. Using a stronger degreaser can give the additional power needed to remove stubborn grease and food splatter. If you don’t like the idea of using a strong store bought degreaser, you can start off by making a homemade solution using the following ingredients into a spray bottle:
- ¼ cup white vinegar
- ½ teaspoon of dish soap
- 2 ½ cups of warm water
When using a degreaser to fight stuck on splatter and grime, it is always best to be very careful with hard scrubbing of the areas. A strong solution mixed with hard scrubbing can eat away at paint on walls or the finish on cabinet exteriors. One solution to help with this is to let the degreaser sit on the grease to help break it down, preventing the need for harder scrubbing. Â
Like anything, always be careful with strong chemicals, and make sure that the solution you are using is safe on the particular surface.Â
Use Lids On Skillets And Pots
While it is not always ideal to cook with a lid on, being conscious of this will help prevent food and grease splatter from forming from the start. Use a lid when you can, and you will have less to clean up in the future!
