Household Items to Clean Often

December 20, 2018 by Mulberry Maids

While your kitchen and bathrooms are usually the main focus areas for routine home cleaning, there are many other things to be cleaned that are often missed.  Keep an eye out for these extras to help keep your home more sanitary and feeling fresher!

Cell Phone

Your cell phone goes everywhere you go – and you touch it constantly!  Just like washing your hands, you should clean your cell phone daily. Use a microfiber cloth and rubbing alcohol to sanitize the exterior of your phone.

Heavily Used Appliances

Just like bathrooms and your kitchen counter and sink, appliances need to be cleaned weekly. This is especially true for your refrigerator and dishwasher, which not only catch lots of food splatter, meat juices, and other food particles, dirty hands are constantly opening and closing them. Sanitize the exterior of these appliances, and give them a good wipe down to freshen up the look of your kitchen. Check out this post for tips on deep cleaning your refrigerator.

Inside your Car

The interior of your car needs to be regularly cleaned.  Not only will an interior car cleaning help to keep you organized and comfortable, but it will also keep you driving safer with less distractions.  In addition, your shoes, pets, and other passengers bring in a multitude of dirt and allergens, which need to be cleaned up. Cleaning Supplies

Just because your cleaning supplies are used for cleaning, doesn’t mean that the supplies themselves should not be routinely cleaned. Cleaning supplies need to be clean and sterile to do their job correctly. For tips on cleaning your cleaning supplies, read this blog post.

Computers & Remote Controls

Just like your cell phone, your computer and remote controls need to be wiped down and sterilized often.  Multiple hands touch these items, while eating or being sick, spreading germs and allergens to everyone else.  Use a microfiber cloth and rubbing alcohol to wipe them down for sanitation.

Pillows

Pillows are often overlooked for cleaning, but should be cleaned regularly to fight the buildup of allergens and dust mites.  This is very important for your health and sleeping quality, as you spend 8 hours every night breathing in and around your pillow.  Check out pillow talk for tips on cleaning your pillows.

Door Knobs & Light Switches

Just like your computer, remote controls, and cell phones, door knobs and light switches should be regularly cleaned and sanitized.  They are some of the most touched household items, and can hold onto germs and bacteria. Use some rubbing alcohol and a microfiber cloth to polish and sanitize them.

Bathmats

Bathmats take on a lot of water from bathing, and rarely actually have time to dry out in between uses.  A bathroom can be a perfect breeding ground for mold and mildew, and your bathmat may be part of the problem, as it provides a wet and warm environment for bacterial growth. Clean and dry your bathmat weekly, which will help reduce the chances for mold and mildew growth in your bathroom.
