Ceiling fan blades have the potential to collect a huge amount of dust. The rotating blades react with the air, and build up a charge that attracts the extra dust floating around a room. Luckily cleaning ceiling fans is simple and fast. For a quick dusting of the blades, use a simple extendable duster like this. Dust each blade, and then vacuum up any excess dust that has fallen to the ground. The more you keep up with this, the less dust buildup there will be. With consistent dusting, the duster should capture a lot of the dust on its own.
For heavy duty dust and grime on a fan blade that has not been cleaned for a long time, you can try the pillowcase method. Grab a stepladder, pillowcase, and wet microfiber cloth. Reach up to the fan blade and put the pillowcase around it as you would a pillow. Pull the dust off the blade and into the pillow case. Do this on all the blades, then dump the dust and grime into the garbage and wash the pillow case normally. Use your wet cloth to give the fan blades a good wiping to get all the residual dust off, and enjoy your clean fan!
