Luckily the often missed fan vents are very easy to clean, and the task does not need to be performed very often. This will help to make keeping your Fort Collins’ home bathroom clean a bit easier, especially if you get into a good habit of cleaning it consistently.

If that is still not enough to convince you to give bathroom cleaning a try, then book the best housekeeper in Fort Collins to take the chore off of your plate so you can focus on other things in your life.

Read on to learn a quick and easy process to keep your bathroom fan vents clean and running smoothly.

What is a good routine to help clean the fan vent consistently?

As with everything in home cleaning, the more consistent you do something, the easier it will be in the future, so it is important to develop a routine that is quick and efficient, and one that you will stick to.

To get started cleaning your fan vents, follow these steps:

  • Remove the vent cover by pulling down gently, and releasing any wires or attachments to take the cover fullt off.
  • Perform a thorough cleaning of the vent cover by soaking it in warm soapy water. After a few minutes, scrub the vent cover as needed to get all the stuck on grime off of it. Let the cover air dry on a dry towel.
  • Clean the actual exhaust fan:
    • Unplug any wires going to the fan, or turn off the power to the bathroom.
    • Use a vacuum wand attachment to vacuum up all the dirt and debris that is stuck on and around the fan. A brush and crevice attachment tool will be very handy for this step. If you don’t have a vacuum like this to use, you can do this step by hand. Using an old rag, try to grab all the loose debris and dust out of the area, but be careful to not damage anything.
    • Once all the dry cleaning is done, you can perform a wet wiping of the fan and its surroundings. Using a clean microfiber cloth and some all purpose spray, work on cleaning the fan blades and other components. Try to make sure to get all the stuck on grime that was not removed in the previous step. Depending on the type of fan that you have, it may be possible to disassemble it further for a deeper cleaning.
  • Once the fan and vent are fully cleaned, you can reassemble the unit. Make sure to plug everything back into place or turn the power back on to the bathroom.

How often should the vents be cleaned?

Similar to cleaning your bathroom light fixtures, the vents do not need to be cleaned nearly as often as your toilet or shower. That being said, cleaning these vents will help the overall health of your bathroom. When they are clogged, covered in dust, or simply not able to work to their full potential, excess moisture and odor will build up in the bathroom, leading to mildew and even mold development.

The necessary cleaning frequency will ultimately depend on how often the bathroom is used, how moist the environment is, and simply taking a visual look at the vent. A good rule of thumb is to aim to clean the vent every 6 months to ensure optimal performance.
