Spring is here! Dust off your bike and cruise around, whether you pedal to the local breweries or venture on a full day mountain bike epic, this is your guide!
Cruising around town: Fort Collins is lucky to be rated a platinum bicycle city making it easy and safe for us to enjoy biking around town, on bike paths and in protected bike lanes. Check out the Spring Creek trail and the Poudre Trail for a cruise with the family before grabbing food in Old Town.
Resources: The Fort Collins Bike Library allows you to borrow bikes from 1 hour to 5 days. Great for visitors to grab a bike and explore Fort Collins. Recycled Cycles sells used bikes of all varieties, a great place to start if you interested in 2 wheeled recreation.
Road Rides: For more ambitious riders, tackling the classic hills around Horsetooth Reservoir is a must. Enjoy the sweeping views of the plains from the Rocky Mountain foothills. If you’re feeling especially fit, head for Rist Canyon, a 3000’ climb from town, followed by a twisty and fast descent back to town.
Resources: There are numerous road riding groups in Northern Colorado. Check out the all women riding group and team, Fort Follies or the Fort Collins Cycling Club for group rides from beginner to expert.
Mountain Biking: Fort Collins has no shortage of great mountain biking. From natural areas, such as Maxwell and Coyote Ridge, to Lory State Park, there is riding for all levels. For beginners, check out Pineridge Natural Area to hone your skills, before attempting the solid climb up Maxwell across the street. These areas do get crowded, especially after work and on weekends. A 15 minute drive brings you to Lory State Park, where beginners can warm up on the smooth and flowy valley trails. Advanced riders can test their climbing legs on Howard Trail, and enjoy fast technical descending on Timber Trail.
Resources: Hook up with the Overland Mountain Bike Club for weekly group rides, trail work, and weekend camping trips.
